Pakistani musician Waris Baig recently shared that Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt apologized to him for the unauthorized use of one of his songs in the hit movie Murder.
In a podcast interview, Baig revealed that Bhatt had unknowingly used his song in his movie Murder. Later the director realized that it was written by a Pakistani artist. After learning this, Bhatt personally apologized Baig for the mistake.
Baig also claimed that over the years, many of his songs have been copied, especially by Bollywood films.
Baig however, stated that he doesn’t feel offended when other people use his music without his permission.
Musicain added that during his time, there was no mechanism to protect artists’ intellectual property. He said that things have changed in this digital age. “Now, platforms like YouTube can issue strikes when someone copies content,” he noted.
Despite the past unauthorized use of Baig’s work, Baig seemed understanding and more focused on how copyright protections have improved today.
