Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addresses the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
PM Shehbaz said that it is a “great privilege” for him to address the UN General Assembly for the second time as Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
“Today, we face a number of daunting challenges to the global order: Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, an unstable conflict in Ukraine, destructive conflicts in Africa and Asia, rising global tensions, the resurgence of terrorism, galloping poverty, crippling debt, and the growing impact of climate change.”
“We feel the coolness of a new world order,” the prime minister stated.
PM Shehbaz stated that he was expressing “the intense sorrow and despair of Pakistanis over the plight of Gazans. Our hearts hurt as we see the horror develop in the Holy Land. A calamity that shocks humanity’s awareness as well as the institution’s basis.”
The prime minister questioned if the world could afford to keep silent as “children lie buried under the debris of their broken houses, and can we turn a blind eye to mothers holding the lifeless remains of their children.
“This is more than simply a war; it is a systematic massacre of innocent Palestinians. The blood of Gazan youngsters stains not just the oppressors’ hands, but also those participating in prolonging this horrible struggle.”
He claimed that ignoring Palestinians’ “unending suffering” harmed mankind.
“It’s not enough to denounce…” We must act right away and demand a swift end to the destruction. “We should remember.”
He said the two-state solution is the only way the international community can bring about a lasting peace for Palestine.
PM Shehbaz insisted that Palestine be granted full UN membership right away.
The prime minister further stated, “Israel’s relentless bombing of Lebanon has claimed the lives of over 500 people in the course of a few days.”
