The employees staged protest demonstration against privatization of Pakistan International Airline (PIA in Karachi on Thursday.
The protest was staged at the PIA head office in Karachi.
According to the reports, the PIA CBA People’s Unity staged a protest and raised slogans at the head office against the privatization of the national airline.
Under the leadership of PIA CBA People’s Unity President Hidayatullah Khan, employees chanted slogans, and the protesters shouted, “No to PIA privatization.”
The protesters stated that the privatization of PIA is unacceptable in any form.
Earlier, the National Assembly’s privatization committee had announced that bidding for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is due on October 1.
This update was shared during a session led by MQM’s Farooq Sattar , where he disclosed that six companies are set to participate in the bidding, making PIA the first state-owned enterprise to undergo privatization under the current framework.
Farooq Sattar mentioned the possibility of arranging to watch the bidding process live, potentially coordinating with the privatization minister, Aleem Khan.
Describing the meeting as a “farewell” for PIA, he confirmed that the auction will take place on October 1. He emphasized that the rights of PIA employees will remain a top priority post-privatization, assuring that there will be no reductions in their salaries and benefits.
