The Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) has suspended operations for two days following protests sparked by the tragic death of a 21-year-old student, Minahil, who lost her life in a bus accident on campus.
Minahil, a biochemistry student in her fifth semester, was involved in a fatal accident when her motorcycle collided with a university bus on Monday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. when, according to police, Minahil lost control of her bike upon noticing the bus approaching.
Witnesses claimed she had been riding at a high speed. Although the bus driver, identified as Aamir, has been suspended while an investigation is conducted, university officials have suggested that he may not have been at fault.
Following the incident, a large group of students gathered outside the university, voicing their frustration and sorrow. They called for accountability and demanded better safety measures on campus to prevent such incidents in the future.
A university representative expressed profound sadness over Minahil’s passing and explained that the decision to close the university was made as a mark of respect for her. “The university community is deeply saddened by the loss of such a promising student, and our thoughts are with her family in this time of grief,” the spokesperson said.
Although Minahil’s father initially opted not to pursue legal action, police have confirmed that further investigation will proceed if a formal complaint is filed.
The university administration revealed that Minahil’s parents had reviewed CCTV footage of the accident and, based on this evidence, her father agreed that the bus driver was not responsible for the incident.
Additionally, it was noted that Minahil had been involved in another motorcycle accident a month earlier in the Kent area, which had resulted in serious injuries.
