Veteran actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma, a cherished figure in Malayalam cinema, passed away on Friday evening, September 20, at 79.
After battling health issues for several weeks at a private hospital in Kochi, her condition deteriorated in the days leading up to her death, leaving the film fraternity in deep sorrow.
Kaviyoor Ponnamma, renowned for her maternal roles on screen, had developed close relationships with many actors, including Mammootty and Mohanlal, who viewed her as a motherly figure.
The industry’s biggest stars shared emotional tributes in her memory. Mammootty posted a poignant image of Ponnamma planting a kiss on his cheek, accompanied by a message of heartfelt condolence.
Actor Mukesh, who made his debut with Ponnamma playing his mother, also shared his grief, reflecting on their shared journey.
