A vulnerability recently discovered in the instant messaging application WhatsApp that allows the hackers to bypass the app’s “View Once” feature, and gives them access to users’ private photos and chats.
Introduced in 2022, the View Once feature was designed to enhance privacy by ensuring that any media or messages cannot be reopened, used for screenshots or cannot be recorded.
However, cyber-security experts at Zingo X Research claimed that Meta is neglecting this feature.
The team found that cyber attackers could easily save and share copies of view once messages from hacked WhatsApp accounts.
In a report published in Bleeping Computer, Zingo’s CTO, Tal Beeri, stated that their team responsibly presented these findings to Meta.
However, once they realized the vulnerability had already been exploited ruthlessly, they decided to make this information public to protect WhatsApp users’ privacy.
