Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged for reforms of the international financial framework to achieve the sustainable developmental goals.
PM called for changes during his online appearance at the inaugural virtual Summit of the Future Global Call at the United Nations in New York.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the necessity of more loans from international development banks, more official development assistance, and improved concessional finance.
The PM gave world leaders a detailed strategy that included methods for economically disadvantaged countries to meet the SDGS and take on global issues.
In addition, he emphasized the “continuous threats to the concept of collectivism,” stating that “we are at risk of permanently damaging the notion of ‘we’ in an era of enormous global challenges and escalating crises.”
He claimed that the condition of the people of Gaza is a travesty of the idea of collectivism and that a collective “we” demands a certain amount of equality and fairness.
In order to solve the issue of debt, the premier emphasized the necessity for creative financial solutions, such as “climate debt swaps” and “fair debt relief methods”.
While there are many prospects for improvement brought about by technical breakthroughs, he stated that everyone, especially those living in the Global South, ought to have access to these technology.
According to the prime minister, despite free access to technologies can empower individuals, new technologies also call for new and stronger security measures to keep the globe safe from potential abuse.
According to him, injustices and inequalities provide room for bad actors to operate on a local and international level, especially in countries that are highly indebted, vulnerable to climate change, and simultaneously deal with terrorism and misinformation.
