The access to X, previously known as Twitter, was now restored in Pakistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) lawyer informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday.
The SHC was hearing petitions against ban and suspension of X in Pakistan.
PTA’s lawyer, Ahsan Imam, confirmed the withdrawal of the notification related to the suspension of X and informed the court that “the notification regarding the suspension of X has been withdrawn,” upon which the court stated, “If the letter has been withdrawn, then X has been restored.”
The petitioner’s lawyer, Moiz Jafri, argued that “access to X is still not possible.
On March 28, the federal government submitted a response that X is functioning, but the ban on X has not yet been lifted.
No social media site can be shut down without a valid reason.
A contempt of court petition has also been filed, but despite court orders, X remained suspended.
The court remarked, “There is no notification of X’s suspension anymore, which means that X has been restored.”
However, during another petition, PTA’s second lawyer, Saad Siddiqui, stated, “I have no information regarding withdrawal of the notification.”
The Sindh High Court questioned, “Has PTA appointed a separate lawyer for each petition? This is wrong; one lawyer has been informed, but the other has not.”
The Deputy Attorney General responded, “X was suspended based on intelligence information,”.
The court then remarked, “You should provide reasons for the suspension of X.”
With these remarks, the court adjourned the hearing of other petitions related to the suspension of X/Twitter for two weeks.
