China’s police head announced on Monday that, in an effort to solidify its position as a global security supplier, the country will educate thousands of law enforcement professionals from various nations over the course of the next 12 months.
Public security minister Wang Xiaohong stated during a speech at a conference in eastern China that Chinese police had trained 2,700 officers in the last year and are expecting to train 3,000 more from other nations over the course of the next 12 months.
Wang said, “We will (also) send police consultants to conduct training in countries in need to help them swiftly and efficiently improve their law enforcing capabilities.”
Law enforcement officials from 122 nations, regions, and international organizations, such as Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, and the international police agency Interpol, attended the security conference that was held in the port city of Lianyungang in Jiangsu province.
The yearly Lianyungang conference is considered a component of the Global Security Initiative (GSI), which Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed for 2022. The initiative’s goal is to address global concerns by working with other nations.
However, many have characterized the GSI as a means of augmenting China’s worldwide sway and undermining the extant US-led security arrangement.
