The federal government of Pakistan has appointed Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz Satti as new Chairman of Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).
According to local media reports the President, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has given approval of the appointment of Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz Satti as chairman of FPSC.
The slot of chairman FPSC was open after the appointment of Shahid Ashraf Tarar as Federal minister in the caretaker government setup in August 2023.
Lt. General Satti currently commands the II Corps. It is a field corps of the Pakistan Army based at Multan Cantonment, Punjab, Pakistan.
It is one of the Pakistani military’s twelve field corps units, having seen deployments against the Indian Army in 1971 to the east and the Afghan war to enforce national defenses in western Pakistan.
What is FPSC?
The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) is a constitutional agency formed under Article 242 of Pakistan’s Constitution of 1973.
The FPSC Function Rules 1978 were also created to help the Commission achieve its goals.
Composition and Functions of the Commission According to Section 3 of the FPSC Ordinance 1977 and Regulation 3 of the FPSC (Composition and Condition of Service Regulations, 1978), the Commission consists of one Chairman and eleven Members.
Section 7 of the Ordinance lists the Commission’s responsibilities, which include conducting exams and tests in order to hire people for all public services, the Federation’s civil services, and civil posts related to the organization’s operations at basic pay scales 16 and above or equivalent.
