The PTI states that former prime minister Imran Khan has submitted an application to succeed Sir Winston Churchill as chancellor of the esteemed University of Oxford in Britain.
On a variety of allegations ranging from embezzlement to inciting violence, Imran just celebrated one year in prison. He claimed that these accusations were politically motivated and intended to prevent him from gaining power.
PTI spokesperson Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari, who is based in London, told AFP that Imran Khan had instructed him to submit his application, and that it will shortly be scrutinized.
“Imran Khan is one of the bigger and more well-known personalities to come out of Oxford, so it would be fantastic to have him as chancellor, he added. It’s a ceremonial position but one of the highest status and significance.”
As per British media, Imran is one of the strong candidate to take over the charge of Oxford Chancellor.
Voting will take place at the end of October, and the university website states that the list of candidates for the 10-year term will not be made public until October.
Imran studied philosophy, politics, and economics before earning his degree from Oxford in 1975.
As one of the best cricket players in the country, he lived an active lifestyle and was frequently featured in British gossip publications. He had three marriages, one to British socialite and filmmaker Jemima Goldsmith, before pursuing a career in politics and philanthropy.
