The Foreign Office (FO) refuted the veracity of a rumor making the rounds on social media regarding Germany turning over the individuals responsible for the attack on the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt.
FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch called the social media post “fake news” when asked if the culprits in the vandalism had been turned over to Pakistan, as had been stated in the article.
On July 20, during a demonstration in Frankfurt, the Pakistani embassy was assaulted by dozens of miscreants. The German police then took two individuals into custody.
According to reports, Afghan nationals were permitted to stage a nonviolent demonstration by German authorities. Tensions increased, though, when the demonstrators became aggressive, threw stones at the embassy, and took down the national flag.
German police had been using camera footage to identify other demonstrators, so they expected to make further arrests after apprehending two Afghan nationals.
Pakistan denounced the terrorist group’s attack on its consulate and the German government’s inability to ensure the safety and security of the consular mission’s property a day after the event.
Pakistan, meantime, has sent a formal complaint over the event by calling Germany’s top diplomat.
According to the FO statement, the host government is in charge of upholding the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, which places responsibility for the grounds’ security and the safety of diplomats on its shoulders.
The Foreign Office had declared, “We are expressing our strong protest to the German government and urge it to take immediate measures to fulfil its responsibilities under the Vienna Conventions.”
Pakistan has further requested that the German authorities act quickly to apprehend and punish individuals implicated in the incident and hold accountable those accountable for the security shortcomings.
Media sources said that the incident had attracted a lot of attention from worldwide communities, prompting questions about the stations’ diplomatic security.
