Pakistan’s batting sensations Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan retained their positions in the latest T20I rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.
Babar and Rizwan remained fourth and fifth in the rankings, with scores of 755 and 746, respectively, with Australia’s Travis Head leading the way, followed by India’s Suryakumar Yadav, who has risen to second place.
The current rankings show a significant increase in Indian hitters following their recent five-match T20I series victory against Zimbabwe by 4-1.
After the series, Indian captain Shubman Gill climbed 36 positions to 37th after scoring 170 runs in five innings. He surpassed Rohit Sharma (42nd) and Virat Kohli (51st), who retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani moved up 11 places in the T20I bowling rankings, to 44th, after collecting six wickets in the India series. On the other side, India’s Washington Sundar (up 36 positions to 46th) and Mukesh Kumar (up 21 spots to 73rd) also climbed the rankings.
Adil Rashid of England remained the top T20I bowler, followed by South Africa’s Anrich Nortje and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.
England won by 114 runs and an innings, helping several of top players climb the Test rankings.
“There was also some shift on the updated Test rankings, with a host of England players the biggest climbers after what they did in dispatching the West Indies with ease at Lord’s,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) disclosed.
“Ben Stokes’ team won by an innings and 114 runs against the Caribbean side in London, and four of their finest batsmen gained ground on the Test hitters’ rankings.
“Harry Brook moves up three places to seventh behind No.1 ranked Kiwi Kane Williamson, as top-order batters Zak Crawley (up three spots to 13th) and Ollie Pope (up three places to 29th) also gain ground after strong performances in the nation’s capital.”
