Mobile phone services will undergo suspension in 21 districts across Punjab during the observance of Muharram 9 and 10, as announced by the Punjab Home Department.
Among the areas affected by this measure are Muzaffargarh, where service blackout is scheduled for the specified dates. The suspension will primarily cover sensitive zones in cities such as Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, DG Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Layyah, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Rajanpur, and other districts in northern Punjab.
Conversely, mobile networks will remain operational in districts like Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Chiniot, Multan, Khanewal, Vehari, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, and Lodhran.
The federal government had previously approved the deployment of armed forces nationwide to ensure security during Muharram, responding to requests from authorities in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir for military assistance in maintaining law and order.
Under Article 245 of the Constitution, the central government has authorized the deployment of army troops and civil armed forces to uphold peace.
It is noteworthy that Ashura, a significant observance, will take place in Pakistan on July 17 (Wednesday).
