Head coach of the Pakistan white ball squad Gary Kirsten arrived in Lahore on Monday to talk with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi regarding team changes, including captaincy.
After the disastrous World Cup campaign in T20 cricket, the PCB chairman had called him to discuss the future of the Pakistan squad.
On the other hand, Naqvi’s conversation with the head coach over Babar Azam’s captaincy is crucial.
Gary Kirsten has already turned in a report about Pakistan’s terrible World Cup performance, which has raised a lot of worries. On July 3, sources informed that he had sent the PCB a “confidential” evaluation report.
According to the reports, the PCB chairman will go over the paper that highlighted the players’ discipline, fitness, and game awareness—among other things—that contributed to the team’s early departure from the major tournament.
The news comes as the Green Shirts lost to arch-rivals India and the underdogs United States unexpectedly, meaning they did not even advance to the World Cup’s Super Eight round.
The squad captained by Babar Azam only prevailed over Canada and Ireland, which wasn’t enough to advance them to the next round of the competition.
The national team’s poor performance drew harsh criticism from both cricket enthusiasts and past players, which prompted the PCB chief to declare a “major surgery” on the team.
The PCB chief will review the findings and confer with other board members and former cricket players prior to making a decision.
