In an interview, former Zimbabwean cricket player Andy Flower—currently the head coach of Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL)—discussed his thoughts on the captaincy of the Pakistani national side.
Leg-spinner Shadab Khan is out in the running for the captaincy, according to Andy, who instead believes that wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan would be the best option.
He talked about how the team’s performance has suffered as a result of the current unrest over the leadership and coaching changes.
Andy pointed out that even with the return of players like Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, the adjustments had little effect.
He also emphasized the team’s tense body language during games, highlighting Gary Kirsten’s limited time as head coach and the team’s early elimination from a big event.
Andy Flower stated, “Kirsten didn’t have time to mold the side into a unit.”
After the ICC World Cup, Babar Azam resigned as captain of Pakistan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi took over for a short while until Babar was given the captaincy again due to rumours of unrest among the squad.
The squad’s struggles under changing leadership were highlighted by its recent performance, which included a series tie against a depleted New Zealand team, close victories over Ireland, and an unexpected loss to the USA.
