Pakistan’s T20 World Cup journey is in jeopardy as they take on Canada in a crucial encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York today.
To remain in the competition, Pakistan must win their next two crucial group matches. Furthermore, if the United States loses both of its games against Ireland and India, it will have little chance of qualifying for the World Cup.
Pakistan’s participation in the event will end abruptly in the first round if the US manages to collect even one more point.
Pakistan’s chances are so slim that even one rain-affected match would mean elimination for the Green Shirts, as the US needs just one point to advance to the next round.
Pakistan lost to the United States and India in their last two World Cup games.
They had a terrible showing in their opening game vs the United States, losing in a Super Over. They fell by six runs in the second game against India, their bitter rivals, after failing to reach a 120-run target.
In addition to winning their group matches, the Men in Green will need to drastically raise their run rate in order to secure a spot in the Super 8 round.
The match between Ireland and Pakistan on June 16 will become critical if both India and the Ireland defeat the US.
