In light of the conversations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), former Indian cricket player Gautam Gambhir is probably going to take over as head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Expectations over Gautam Gambhir’s anticipated involvement arise from the fact that Rahul Dravid, the Indian team’s current head coach, is due to step down after the T20 World Cup in 2024 and that the former right-hand batter is not likely to run for the position again.
Gambhir most certainly submitted an application for the head coach position, for which the deadline was May 27, even if there has been no formal confirmation as of yet.
The BCCI and Gautam Gambhir are reportedly negotiating on a number of issues, according to the Cricbuzz article.
The notion that ‘we must do it for the country’ is held by both Gambhir and the BCCI. Furthermore, the focus of the discussion between Gambhir and [BCCI Secretary] Jay Shah is reportedly this idea,” the article stated.
It has been revealed that Gambhir’s appointment as the head coach of India has already been verified by a well-known Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owner who has deep contacts to the BCCI upper echelons. The owner has stated that an official announcement is expected shortly.
However, a prominent commentator who is also intimately involved with the BCCI’s operations claimed that attempts are in progress to appoint Gambhir as the team’s head coach. After the IPL final, the former Indian cricket player was also seen chatting with Shah.
It should be mentioned that Gambhir coached KKR in the 2024 IPL season, during which the team took home the respected championship. In his previous role as captain, he had guided the team to two IPL victories in 2012 and 2014.
