The actor Janhvi Kapoor, who will feature in the sports drama “Mr and Mrs Mahi,” recently talked about the difficulties of growing up in the public eye.
In an interview on the Dharma Productions YouTube channel, Janhvi talked about how, when she was barely 12 or 13 years old, the media sexualized her.
She discussed this experience with producer Karan Johar and co-star Rajkummar Rao.
Karan Johar questioned Janhvi about how she handles the constant objectification she encounters during the conversation.
“I felt sexualized by the media for the first time when I was 12 or 13 years old,” Janhvi stated rather honestly.
“I attended an event with my parents, and pictures of me ended up online. As social media was just beginning to grow, I found these images on what appeared to be a pornographic website. Boys at my school saw the photos and laughed at me,” actress recalled.
She described the experience as challenging. “It’s a very strange situation to handle, and I’ve been dealing with it for a long time. I feel very apologetic about my background and need to overcome that. I know others face this in different, possibly more frightening ways. But for me, it was complicated. There’s a sort of character assassination that occurs when a girl dresses in a way that suggests she’s comfortable with her sexuality,” she explained.
