LAHORE: Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman opened on Monday the annual chrysanthemum show organised by the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in Jilani Park.
The week-long flower exhibition, which is free and open to members of the public, attracted a large number of people on its first day.
Following the inauguration, Mr Zaman visited the stalls showcasing more than 50 varieties of chrysanthemums that were on display. The PHA has also decorated around 35,000 plants, including Marigold, on the Jilani Park premises.
Speaking to the press, he said the exhibition has been held every year on the lawns of Jilani Park. However, he added, this year’s exhibition is different compared to previous years as the PHA has committed to entertaining the visitors.
Director General Muhammad Tahir Wattoo said colorful flowers contribute remarkably to a healthy environment and the PHA has been making efforts to grow flowers across Lahore.
He added that PHA had been facing a financial crunch, but despite this, it had been making efforts to achieve the target of clean and green Lahore.
Additional Director General Safiullah Gondal and Administration Director Muhammad Musa Ali Bokhari, among others, also attended the ceremony.
