Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been appointed as the deputy prime minister of Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made the decision and the Cabinet Division issued the summary for his appointment on Sunday.
The appointment was announced when Shehbaz Sharif is visiting Saudi Arabia on official tour, Dar is accompanying the prime minister.
Many believed PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is behind the decision as the former three-time prime minister considered Dar as his closed aid despite the fact that his brother Shehbaz Sharif is the prime minister.
Cyril Almeida, a journalist, posted a comment on X, saying Dar is ready to penetrate in finance and internal affairs. Some analysts believed military establishment had forced the PML-N to appoint Mohsin Naqvi and Muhammad Aurangzeb as ministers of interior and finance respectively. With the latest decision, Ishaq Dar would also have the authority to look into the key affairs of the both sectors and issue directions accordingly.
Dar is third deputy prime minister of Pakistan. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi have also served as the deputy prime ministers of the country.
