According to the Campaign 58.1 percent of Pakistanis are classified as overweight while 43.9 percent fall into the category of obesity. This day is marked on 4th of March each year to advocate for solutions in addressing the global obesity crisis.
World Kidney Day
Pakistan is home to more than 17 million people with kidney problems.
This day is observed on the second Thursday of March every year to create awareness about kidney care. More than 17 million people in Pakistan are suffering from kidney diseases. International studies mark Pakistan’s ranking on eighth in the world in kidney diseases. According to experts, kidney disease is growing rapidly in Pakistan because of late diagnosis, increase in kidney stones phenomena, diabetes and hypertension. The only treatment for chronic kidney disease – CKD – is kidney transplant that is very expensive and not available to a major portion of those suffering from this health complication in Pakistan.
World Plumbing Day
Pakistan is the seventh country in the world in terms of lower access to basic sanitation facilities with one in three schools lacking basic toilet provision.
Only 52 percent of all government schools in the country have all four facilities – toilets, boundary walls, running electricity and drinking water— otherwise the rest are without them all.
Pakistan has the world’s second-highest number of out-of-school children with an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 not attending school – representing 44 percent of the total population of this age group.
