The Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Monday, has suspended the 14-year sentence handed down to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case.
This decision comes after the couple was convicted by an Islamabad accountability court on January 31, just days before the general elections.
Additionally, the IHC has permitted a meeting between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi during Eidul Fitr. This ruling follows a plea filed by Bushra Bibi regarding her transfer to Adiala jail and her desire to meet her husband during the Eid holidays.
During the court proceedings, it was directed that the couple should be allowed to meet during Eid and also permitted to have weekly meetings thereafter. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb noted that the government has the authority to designate any private property as a sub-jail.
Furthermore, the state counsel informed the court that, in compliance with its directive, an inspection of Bani Gala sub-jail was conducted by the director of law, who subsequently submitted a report.
The court instructed the counsel to provide a copy of the report to the petitioner, highlighting that the visiting officer of Bani Gala sub-jail expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided.
