GUJRAT: Speakers at a seminar here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Tuesday condemned the ongoing genocide of the ‘besieged’ Gazans by the barbaric Israelis attacks and the large-scale apathy of the Muslim Ummah as they discussed the recent Palestine-Israel conflagration, warning that if the Zionist state was not reined in sooner, it may lead to the catastrophic scenario of the third world war.
Titled ‘Palestine-Israel Conflict: Historical Dynamics, Recent Conflagration and its Regional Implications’, the one-day seminar was organized by the Department of Political Science and International Relations to highlight the role of the United Nations, especially the Muslim Ummah, and suggest measures for restoring peace in the region.
The seminar was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar. Prof Dr Nazir Hussain and Prof. Dr Amna Mehmood were among the guests of honour. Dean Prof Dr Faisal Mehmood Mirza and chairperson of the department Dr Muhammad Mushtaq acted as the hosts.
“Israel’s barbaric attacks on the besieged Gazans are tantamount to declaring war against humanity. The world’s sole super power is clearly supporting the massacre and the Israeli brutality,” Dr Nazir said, suggesting immediate boycott of all Israeli products. “Our statuses on social media platforms should highlight the plight, of Palestinians,” Dr Nazir said and expressed his hope tha ‘ it may give a jolt and awaken the world’.
“It’s a war of narratives and Israel has failed to sway the world public opinion to its side. He advised the students to tune in to foreign media channels for impartial war reporting.
Dr Amna Mahmood said that the Middle East has remained in turmoil since the establishment of Israel.
Palestinians were forcibly evicted from their lands and homes for the establishment of Israel. America supports Israel for its own interests. The petrodollar is the root of all corruption in the Arab world. Currently, about 2.3 million Palestinians besieged in Gaza are demanding justice from the United Nations, Dr Amna said.
The US and Western powers are supporting the atrocious acts of Israel with an eye on trade routes and other resources in the region, she added.
Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar emphasised that the economic boycott of Israel is necessary to help the people of Palestine.
“We can better help the Palestinians by making ourselves feel their pain and suffering,” he said.
Dr Faisal Mahmood Mirza said that the Western powers, which had their own interests in the region, deprived the Palestinians of their land, paving the way for the establishment of Israel. Dr Muhammad Mushtaq thanked the participants of the seminar.
