LAHORE: Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman administered the oath of office to Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad at Governor House in Lahore, officially appointing him as the new Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The oath-taking ceremony was a momentous occasion attended by prominent figures, including Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, who warmly welcomed Justice Khan upon his arrival at the Governor House.
Among the distinguished guests were Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan, Justices Aalia Neelum, Shahid Karim, Shahid Bilal, Farooq Haider, Shehbaz Rizvi, Ali Baqar Najafi, Deputy Attorney General Rafaqat Dogar, and senior counsels.
Justice Khan assumes the pivotal role of LHC Chief Justice, succeeding Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, who retired on March 7 after a remarkable 13-year service, including nearly three years as Chief Justice.
Serving Tenure of Justice Malik Shahzad
Scheduled to serve for one year, Justice Malik Shahzad Khan will retire on March 14, 2025, upon reaching the age of 62. Following his retirement, Senior Puisne Justice Shujaat Ali Khan is slated to assume the position of LHC Chief Justice.
This marks Justice Khan’s official elevation to the role after a brief stint as the acting LHC Chief Justice, during which he stepped in on May 2, 2022, when his predecessor, Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, was abroad.
As the new Chief Justice takes charge, the Lahore High Court anticipates continued judicial excellence under Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan’s leadership, upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
