A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit several cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
Earthquake jolts created panic among KP residents. People in Malakand, Upper Dir, Shangla, Swat, and other nearby areas felt the strong shaking. However, there are no reports of casualties or significant damage.
Other cities such as Kohat, Parachinar, Hangu, and Orakzai districts also struck by the earthquake.
Tremors also hit Malakand and Batkhela city where people fled buildings to seek safety outside.
In Shangla, Swat, and surrounding areas, locals reported severe shaking.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad confirmed that the epicenter was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The quake’s depth was measured at 187 kilometers. Its magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded at 5.7.
However no major structural damage has been reported so far.
The authorities are monitoring the situation. Monitoring department has set the emergency alert in the effected areas. Residents have been advised to stay vigilant in case of aftershocks.
