The Lahore High Court scheduled a hearing for an application contesting multiple charges against a 12-year-old boy.
Justice Shahbaz Rizvi of the LHC presided over the case, where the Punjab Inspector General of Police and Kasur district officers were named as respondents. The petition claimed that Muzammil had been wrongfully accused due to the influence of a political figure.
The boy was arrested in connection with two cases that were filed while he was already in police custody. He asserted his innocence, stating that records would confirm he was not involved in the alleged crimes.
According to the application, a judicial magistrate in Allahabad, Kasur, placed the child on physical remand in all cases, after which he was sent to jail on judicial remand. The petition also alleges that police demanded Rs250,000 for his release but failed to free him even after the payment was made.
Muzammil’s application asked the court to dismiss the charges against him and to order his immediate release. Additionally, he requests an investigation by the IGP into the allegations and has urged the court to instruct the superintendent of Kasur jail to conduct a medical examination for him.
The court has directed the Registrar’s Office to proceed with the application for hearing, despite objections raised.
