A tragic explosion at an explosives plant in northwest Turkey claimed the lives of 12 people and left four others severely injured, on Tuesday.
“12 of our citizens died in this blast that occurred at the factory in the Karesi district”, local Governor Ismail Ustaoglu of Balıkesir confirmed.
Governer stated that rescue teams immediately reached the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospital. “All our teams are currently on the scene,” Ustaoglu added.
The explosion took place in the section of the factory where capsules are manufactured, causing part of the building to collapse.
After footage of this explosion showed debris, including glass and metal fragments, scattered outside the factory.
To investigate the root cause of this explosion, Turkish prosecutors have opened an investigation, with Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirming the inquiry. Tunc announced on X that the Balıkesir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had assigned one deputy chief prosecutor and four prosecutors to lead the investigation, which is being conducted thoroughly.
In addition, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz expressed his condolences for the victims families, writing on X, “I offer my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the explosion at the explosives factory in Karesi district. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
