Eleven policemen embraced martyrdom in an ambush by the dacoits of river area in Machka, Rahim Yar Khan.
Police say its seven men sustained injuries in the attack.
The dacoit gangs operate from southern Punjab riparian sides and internal Sindh. They involved in criminal activities including kidnapping for ransom.
Punjab Police stated the dacoits attacked the police vans with rocket fires. The vans, as per the statement, were returning from duties.
“One of them developed malfunction, after which the dacoits started rocket firing.”
Inspector General (IG) of Police Dr Usman Anwar has taken notice of the incident and sought report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO). He has also gone to the RYK for the inspection. The IG has also issued order for the provision of best medical facilities to the injured.
Reports say the District Police Officer (DPO) RYK and RPO Bahawalpur were already present at the scene.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Minitser for Interior Mohsin Naqvi has condemned the attack. Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz and Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah have also issued condemnation messages, expressing solidarity.
Prime Minister has also ordered prompt and swift actions against the bandits.
“It would not go unavenged,” said Maryam Nawaz, issuing direction for her team to sort the involved out decisively.
She also directed the top officials to devise a strategy to curb the menace, seeking complete report from the IG. She said sacrifices of policemen will always be remembered, expressing solidarity with the families of the victims.
She also prayed for the deceased soul and quick recovery of the injured.
